SHPRD-RZR

SHPRD-RZR is a drone and riser synth designed around the Shepard-Risset infinite glissando auditory illusion. This illusion is created by playing a series of ascending or descending tones that are very close in pitch, so that the listener perceives a single tone that is continuously rising or falling in pitch.

The sweep controls on SHPRD-RZR set the rise and fall time of the tones. The course parameter sets how far the tones ascend or descend in pitch. The fine parameter adds or subtracts cents (100 cents per semitone) from the course parameter setting. The more parameter mixes 4 additional voices to create an even richer texture per MIDI note.

The spectrogram on SHPRD-RZR shows the changes in texture as you adjust the parameters. The spectrogram is a visual representation of the frequencies present in the sound. The brighter/warmer the area, the louder the frequency. As you adjust the parameters, you can see the frequencies change and create new textures.
